Pier history online is full of dates and lengths that trace back to reviews and social posts. This page keeps to what the Town of Juno Beach, Palm Beach County and Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) have published, and it lists the gaps. Checked Oct. 19, 2026.
1999: the current pier opens
The Town of Juno Beach’s page for Juno Beach Park calls it “Home of the Palm Beach County Pedestrian Pier, open 1999.” No county or LMC page we checked gives an opening year. Palm Beach County lists the pier at 14776 U.S. Highway 1 and gives its length as 990 feet, and LMC uses the same figure.

Earlier piers
Travel and review sites mention an older, shorter pier from the 1940s or 1950s, and different lengths for the rebuild. We could not find a town, county or LMC source for those details, so we do not repeat them. If you hold a primary record, such as a county document or a dated photograph, the Juno Beach Historical Society is the right group to see it.
2014: Loggerhead Marinelife Center takes over management
Palm Beach County says “The Juno Beach Pier is managed by Loggerhead Marinelife Center” and sends visitors to LMC for current information. LMC says it has managed the pier since 2014. The pier is also part of LMC’s sea turtle work. The county says the pier is part of the Responsible Pier Initiative, which LMC calls “a first-of-its-kind program” that equips first responders on fishing piers to deal with turtle injuries and strandings.

2026: the refurbishment
In March 2026 CBS12 reported that county commissioners had approved up to $1,278,332.50 to replace the decking and railings across 990 linear feet of the pier. LMC says construction began on June 1, 2026, in phases, with sections closed while they are worked on, and estimates about six months. The full dated record, including the superseded March schedule, is in our refurbishment log.

The center behind the pier: Eleanor Fletcher and LMC
LMC says Juno Beach resident Eleanor Fletcher started it. Its sea turtle monitoring program officially began when she received her permit from the state of Florida in 1969, and LMC calls it one of the longest-running sea turtle monitoring programs in Florida. The Children’s Museum of Juno Beach was incorporated in 1983 in an old home in Loggerhead Park. It was renamed The Marinelife Center of Juno Beach in 1990. In April 2007 it moved into a new 12,000 square foot certified “green” building and became Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

- The date, length and builder of any earlier pier.
- Who built the 1999 pier and what it cost.
