Short answer: no state fishing license is needed to fish from the Juno Beach Pier. Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC), which manages the pier for Palm Beach County, says on its pier page: “Juno Beach Pier holds a fishing license for anglers, so no additional fishing license is required to fish from the pier.”
The state’s rules agree. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) lists, among those exempt from a saltwater fishing license, “Individuals saltwater fishing from a pier with a valid saltwater pier license”, on its Do I Need a License? page. The pier holds that license; you pay the pier’s daily fishing fee instead.

What you pay on the pier
LMC lists a Daily Fishing Fee of $5.00, $3.00 for youth 12 and under, and $3.00 for veterans. If you come to watch, the Daily Spectator Fee is $2.00, and veterans walk on free. These are pier fees charged by LMC, not a state license and not parking. Parking is covered on our parking page.
LMC describes the Pier House as full service, with a guest services team, snack bar, gift store, fishing tackle, rental poles and bait. Its page does not list a price for rental poles, so ask at the counter.

The exception: sharks
“No license needed” is not the same as “no paperwork of any kind”. FWC says its shore-based shark fishing permit has been required since July 1, 2019 for anglers 16 and older “when taking or attempting to take sharks from shore, including jetties, bridges and piers. No permit exemptions, even if exempt from fishing license requirements.”
The pier license does not cover it. FWC lists the permit at $0.00 a year, issued through GoOutdoorsFlorida.com after you finish an educational course. If you plan to fish for sharks off the pier, do the course and get the permit at home before you come. Details are on FWC’s saltwater licenses and permits page.

What changes if you fish the surf beside the pier
Step off the pier onto the sand and the pier’s license no longer applies, because the FWC exemption is for fishing from a pier with a valid pier license. For fishing from shore elsewhere, FWC lists a resident annual shoreline saltwater license at $17.00 and a non-resident 3-day license at $17.00, “Valid for saltwater fishing from the shoreline or a structure affixed to shore.” FWC’s Do I Need a License? page lists the groups who are exempt. Check it for your own case rather than assuming you fit one.
There is also a place rule. Palm Beach County runs Juno Beach Park and says “salt water fishing not permitted in guarded swimming areas”, and the same for surfing. The park has 300 feet of guarded beach frontage, and Ocean Rescue lifeguards are on duty from 9 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. when a condition flag is flying. Set up outside the guarded area, and ask a lifeguard where it ends if you are not sure.

- Palm Beach County says Ocean Rescue lifeguards protect swimmers at fourteen oceanfront and inlet parks, and swimming areas are guarded when a condition flag is flying from the tower "at most parks year-round, seven days a week, from 9:00 am – 5:20 pm", with exceptions at DuBois Park and Peanut Island. "Guard availability may change without notice—look for the condition flag before swimming." Juno Beach Park and Loggerhead Park are on the guarded list. Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation: Beaches
Fishing during the refurbishment
The pier has been under a phased refurbishment since June 1, 2026. LMC still lists fishing fees, tackle, rental poles and bait, and says the work is phased to avoid a full closure, but it does not say in plain words which stretch is open to anglers on a given day. Its Sept. 29 update put the October work between the pier house and the first shade structure. Call the pier on 561-855-6185 before a fishing trip, and see our refurbishment log and winter hours article for the evening question.

Lessons for kids

If you hook a sea turtle
The beach beside the pier is a sea turtle nesting beach, and the pier has a plan for injured turtles. Palm Beach County says the pier is part of the Responsible Pier Initiative, which LMC describes as giving people who respond on fishing piers the resources to deal with sea turtle injuries and strandings, with workshops, signage and rescue nets. LMC’s instruction is simple: “If you spot an injured sea turtle, call Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922.” Tell the Pier House staff as well.
Line left in the water is part of the same problem. LMC says its dive team has removed over 1,014 miles of monofilament from underneath the Juno Beach Pier and a partnering pier since it began. Take your broken line home. More on the turtles themselves is on our sea turtles page.

What this article does not cover
We have not found a primary source for gear limits on the pier or a list of what is caught there, so we do not print one. For size and bag limits, use FWC’s own pages. Our fishing page collects the rest of what LMC and the County publish.
Pier fishing questions
Do I need a Florida fishing licence to fish from the pier?
Not for general fishing. LMC says the pier "holds a fishing license for anglers, so no additional fishing license is required", and FWC exempts people "saltwater fishing from a pier with a valid saltwater pier license." The exception is sharks: FWC requires a shore-based shark fishing permit for anglers 16 and older targeting sharks from piers, with "No permit exemptions."

Can I still fish from the pier during the construction?
LMC says the work is phased so the pier does not close fully, and it still lists daily fishing fees, rental poles and bait. It does not publish which sections anglers can use on a given day; it shares weekly updates on the sections under construction. Call the pier on 561-855-6185 before a fishing trip.
